Suspect arrested in connection with ‘suspicious’ fires in Carleton Place

UPDATE: Police release name of suspect in Carleton Place suspicious fires

Police in Carleton Place say they have arrested one suspect in relation to five suspicious fires that took place between Oct. 5 and Oct. 7.

The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the Lanark County Crime Unit, East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), have arrested and charged an individual relating to suspicious fires in the town of Carleton Place.

Police state that on Thursday, Oct. 5, two suspicious fires were reported to the Lanark County OPP. Another suspicious fire was reported in the early morning hours of Friday, Oc. 6. Then, two more suspicious fires were reported on Oct. 7.

Police did not elaborate on the locations of the fires or the extent of the damage.

The Carleton Place Fire Department assisted with extinguishing all fires.

A subsequent investigation led police to arrest an individual on Sunday, Oct. 8. Police did not release the name of the suspect.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Monday, Oct. 9.

Ongoing investigations are being conducted in relation to all fires.
