Authorities from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) are appealing to the public for information pertaining to the disappearances of Lawrence Bertrim and Robbie Thompson.

Efforts to resolve these missing person cases persist as investigators from both the OPP and SFPS, overseen by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, actively pursue leads.

“We cannot speculate on any potential connection between these cases,” OPP state in a media release.

The press release says investigators from both services are very concerned about the rumours, misinformation and disinformation being spread.

“Rumours can cause delays in the investigation,” police state.

Detective Inspectors Jennifer Patton and Daniel Levert of the OPP emphasize, “We continue to hear stories about disturbing details, but no one has come forward to investigators with any first-hand information. Rumours are not evidence and cannot be used in court.”

Smiths Falls PS Deputy Chief Jodi Empey underscores the priority of public safety while emphasizing the independent nature of each investigation. Empey states,

“These are individual investigations, however investigators from each case speak regularly with each other to make sure nothing is missed. Rumours don’t help. If you know something, please call the tip lines or Crime Stoppers.”

Specialized tip lines have been established to ensure direct communication with the dedicated detectives handling these cases. Individuals possessing even seemingly insignificant first-hand information are encouraged to reach out.

For Robbie Thompson, the dedicated line is 1-855-677-4636, while for Lawrence Bertrim, individuals can contact 1-844-677-9404.

Those with pertinent information who wish to remain anonymous are urged to contact Lanark County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit an anonymous report through the Crime Stoppers website.
