The MTK U13 hockey team in Carleton Place is seeking community donations to support the Lanark County Interval House this holiday season. They’re accepting donations of new women’s and children’s pyjamas and slippers to ensure everyone feels warm and cared for in December.

Lauren Baron, a mother of one of the hockey players, shared information about this initiative with Lanarkist.

“This is our first year collecting for the Lanark County Interval House,” Baron explained. “Last year, the team collected food for the Lanark County Hunger Stop, so this year we wanted to help out another local organization.”

Baron told Lanarkist that “The team chose to collect items for the Lanark County Interval House because we felt it is an organization that gets overlooked during the holidays compared to other local organizations and charities. Interval House welcomes women and their children from our areas as well as the other towns across Lanark County so we felt it would be appropriate for our team to lend a hand during the holiday season.”

Emma, a worker from Interval House, was quick to welcome the team’s efforts. She conferred with Lauren and gave the local team ideas on what they could do to help. The team landed on collecting pyjamas and slippers.

“We are asking that people donate new women’s slippers and/or pyjamas sizes XS -4XL that are suitable for children of all ages,” Baron said. “I would encourage people to support the Lanark County Interval House because the women and children who are staying there have left their home to escape domestic violence and often leave their homes with nothing,” she continued. “Something as simple as a new pair of pyjamas, a set of slippers, or a gift card can make their holiday special.”

For anyone looking to contribute, the MTK U13 team has set up collection boxes at the three local rinks – Pakenham, Almonte, and Carleton Place. The team will also be collecting in front of Cheerfully Made (72 Mill Street, Almonte) before Light Up the Night on Friday, December 1, and before their Almonte home game on Tuesday, December 12 at 5 p.m.
