5 events to check out at Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum this spring

The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum has announced that it will re-open for the 2024 season next week.

A media release states that beginning on Wednesday, April 3, Heritage House will be open for museum tours, inquiries, and genealogical research Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here are some exhibits and events to check out.

1.The Glorious Colours of Nature

Through the medium of paint, artist Nadi Wesley finds joy in nature and depicting their view of the natural world. In a statement, she explains that “the whole essence of colorful nature is food for the soul…’eye candy’ as they say. Sharing to my audience the possibilities of seeing beyond the obvious, and perhaps seeing the world in technicolor and appreciating what surrounds us is my goal.” The Glorious Colours of Nature opens on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Heritage House.

2. Recent Paintings from Artist Craig Carty explores the works created from 2019 to 2024. Craig began his art journey in Montreal in 1987, studying graphic design. Throughout the years, his art evolved in the directon of painting. Currently a Smiths Falls resident, Craig is passionate about searching and discovering through painting, his art, and himself. Recent Paintings will be on display at the Heritage House from April 17 – May 1, 2024.

3. Spring Carnival invites visitors to the Heritage House on Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to ring in spring and the warmer weather. The Museum will host scavenger hunts, self-guided tours of the museum and entertainment including Junkyard Symphony, bouncy castles, and axe throwing. This event is admission by donation.

4. Mysteries of the Keyhole House: Unlocked will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. in the Heritage House Gallery. During this talk, Ted and Marion Outerbridge will share some secrets, stories, and history surrounding their Smiths Falls heritage home. Tickets are $10 for Heritage House Museum Members and $15 for the general public. Please contact the museum directly to secure your ticket, as spaces are limited.

5. Trivia at 4 Degrees Brewing & Distillery continues in partnership with the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum on the first Friday of the month. Trivia costs $25 per table (4-6 people per table), and pre-registration is required. To reserve a space, please contact 4 Degrees Brewing & Distillery directly at 613-285-5120.
