Man arrested after foot chase from police in Carleton Place

A foot chase in Carleton Place led to the arrest of an individual on Tuesday, April 9, Lanark OPP report.

In a media release, police explain that shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were called to a department store on McNeely Avenue where someone had allegedly just taken items from the store without paying.

Police say the individual was located in a nearby restaurant parking lot; he then “ran from officers, jumping several chain link fences before surrendering to police.”

After an investigation, officers discovered the individual had previously been banned from the store.

A 43-year-old male was arrested and charged under the Trespass to Property Act with:

  • Enter premises when prohibited
  • Engage in prohibited activity on premises

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was held in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for April 10, 2024, before the Ontario court of Justice in Perth.

The accused is also wanted in western Ontario for outstanding warrants.
