Mississippi Mills fire department launches Community Connect platform

Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) has introduced Mississippi Mills Community Connect, a platform designed to increase emergency preparedness and response. Community Connect is a free, secure, and easy-to-use portal that allows residents and business owners to voluntarily share critical information with MMFD that will assist emergency responders in the event of an emergency.

How does it work? Create a free account here. From there, residents and business owners can enter valuable information, including details about your residence, number of members in your household, pets, mobility needs, utility shutoffs, emergency contacts, potential hazards, and more. This information will then be relayed to MMFD personnel responding to an active emergency call.

Data will only be used in emergency situations, and logins are password-protected with bank-level encryption and security.

“We are always looking for ways to better serve the citizens of Mississippi Mills. For this reason, we are rolling out a new program to protect our residents and their property in the most effective way possible,” stated Mike Williams, Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services. “By providing information about your household that you feel is important for us to know about at the time of an emergency, we can ensure you and everything you care about are protected to the best of our ability.”

“Community safety and well-being are key pillars in council’s strategic priorities,” said Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry. “Mississippi Mills Community Connect aligns with those priorities as a valuable resource for our firefighters, relaying crucial information during an emergency situation when seconds count.”

Leading up to Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5-11, 2024), residents and business owners who sign up for Mississippi Mills Community Connect between April 29 and May 11 will be entered into a draw for four 72-hour emergency kits (two 4-person kits and two 2-person kits). These comprehensive kits are equipped with vital survival tools such as flashlights, a radio, blanket, food, water, candles, First Aid kit, and more, stored in convenient backpacks that can be grabbed in the event of an emergency. Please watch for more details on the Mississippi Mills and MMFD social media channels.
