Last month, Carleton Place was crowned winner of Ottawa radio station Chez 106’s ‘March Madness of Small Towns’ contest, and now it’s time to celebrate.

Everyone is invited to the Market Square Pavilion on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a community party.

A media release from the town explains that festivities will kick off shortly before 11 a.m. with a celebratory parade beginning at the Carleton Place Library, 101 Beckwith Street, and ending at the Market Square Pavilion, 7 Beckwith Street.

Folks can stand along Beckwith Street to welcome “an assortment of vintage and specialty vehicles” as they travel down Bridge Street, along with members of the Chez 106fm team, and of course, the “Best Small Town” trophy.

The trophy will officially be handed over at the Market Square Pavilion, where celebrations will continue with an assortment of refreshments and activities.

The media release says organizers anticipate between 2,000 and 3,000 attendees.

A variety of complimentary samplers of food and refreshments from local businesses will be on offer, as well as a variety of activities and entertainment, including live performances from the Small Town Socials, as well as busker shows from the Circus Drummer. Various organizations will be overseeing activities such as rock painting, photo booths, a petting zoo, challenges, carnival games, and more! There is something for all ages at this event.

This is the second year of the March Madness of Small Towns competition Carleton Place lost to Almonte in 2023 by only a few votes.

“Residents were sure to not let that happen again,” says a media release from the town.
