Carleton Place man charged with impaired, stunt driving after stopped for speeding on Highway 7

A Carleton Place man has been charged with impaired and stunt driving on Highway 7.

A Lanark OPP officer stopped the speeding vehicle on Highway 7 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township shortly before 10 p.m. on June 4, police explain in a media release. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the detachment for testing.

Matthew McCormack, 25, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on July 8. The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension) and vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
