Public meeting to be held regarding battery energy storage system coming to Mississippi Mills

A new battery energy storage system (BESS) is coming to the Municipality of Mississippi Mills.
This is in response to Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (“IESO”) Long-Term Capacity Procurement, Walker BESS 4 Inc, the company constructing it, explains in a media release.
The Almonte BESS Project will be located at 6299 County Road 29, and will provide up to 4.999 Mega-Watt (MW), “providing much-needed electricity system reliability to Ontario,” Walker BESS explains.
Walker BESS 4 Limited Partnership assigned this project to Walker BESS 4 Inc., a special-purpose entity created by Compass Greenfield Development Inc. to develop this project. More details on the IESO’s Long-Term Capacity Procurement are available here.
A public meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the main hall of the Almonte Civitan Club (500 Almonte Street, Almonte).
“This meeting forms part of our community and Indigenous engagement plan,” the release explains. “Its purpose is to answer any questions before the start of construction. To accomplish this, we are inviting local landowners, municipalities, and Indigenous communities to our public meeting to discuss the project as it approaches construction.”
The public community meeting will allow attendees to ask questions and provide feedback on the project for the full duration of the meeting. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
For greater public access, a project website has also been created at www.almonteenergystorage.com. You can find this notice, along with the project’s Community and Indigenous Engagement Plan, FAQ, and all other updates on the proposed project posted on the project website.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may reach out to BESS 4 at info@almonteenergystorage.com to provide feedback and ask questions regarding the project.
