A Carleton Place resident is $100,000 richer after playing the INSTANT JAWS scratch ticket.

Malcolm Beach, a local consultant, has been playing the lottery for many years, a media release from OLG states. He enjoys playing LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49, as well as the occasional INSTANT ticket. While picking up his tickets for the big draws, Malcolm decided to purchase two INSTANT tickets, and this last-minute decision led him to his first big win.

“I was running some errands when I saw that the LOTTO MAX jackpot was $70 million, so I decided to pick up my tickets, as well as few INSTANTS. I went out to my car and played the JAWS ticket,” said Malcolm, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his winnings. “I revealed the $100,000 prize and immediately froze. I turned my ticket over to read the play instructions to make sure I was playing it right. Sure enough, I was!”

He then had to decide if he wanted to call my wife, go straight home to tell her, or continue to run my errands.

“I landed on option three,” Malcolm smiled. “When I got home, I told my wife she needed to sit down. I pulled the ticket out from behind my back and as she saw the prize amount, her jaw dropped. She began to list all that we could do with the winnings. It was a hilarious and memorable moment.”

With his windfall, Malcolm plans to complete some home improvements, travel, and upgrade his vehicle.

“Winning is an unbelievable feeling. It’s a shock that leaves you in disbelief. This was such a simple game! I just can’t believe it was that easy,” Malcolm concluded.

JAWS is available for $5 a play and the top prize is $100,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.87.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Franktown Road in Carleton Place.
