It’s been nearly two years since Lawrence Bertrim of Smiths Falls first went missing, and nearly one year since Robbie Thompson, from the same town, has last been seen. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) say they remain committed to finding out what happened to two missing Smiths Falls residents.

Lawrence Bertrim, who would now be 44, was last seen on Sept. 30, 2022, in downtown Smiths Falls.

Robbie Thomson, who would now be 35, was reported missing October 19, 2023, but is believed to have gone missing sometime between October 12 and 18, 2023.

“While it has not been determined that the two incidents are connected, investigators cannot rule that out,” OPP say in a media release.

Under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, investigators, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and OPP Aviation Services, have conducted multiple searches (see photos) and followed up on numerous tips from the public.

While there have been multiple appeals for information, investigators still believe someone has a key piece of evidence that will help determine what happened to Lawrence Bertrim and Robbie Thomson.

Anyone with information should call the OPP tip lines:
