Police recover vehicle from Rideau River in Smiths Falls

A vehicle was recovered from the Rideau River today (Thursday, Oct. 10) as a result of a police investigation in Smiths Falls.

Divers with the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit investigated the river in the area of Lower Reach Park.

Police say there were no human remains in the vehicle.

“The car had been reported stolen in the 1990s and the investigation related to the stolen car will continue,” police explain.

Divers, other OPP resources and the Smiths Falls Police Service had been conducting a search in connection with an ongoing investigation. Police did not say if the recovered vehicle is believed to be connected to this ongoing investigation.
