One year after the disappearance of Robbie Thompson, police are continuing to search.

Thompson, who would now be 35, was last seen in the Smiths Falls area. He was reported missing Oct. 19, 2023, but is believed to have gone missing sometime between Oct. 12 and 18, 2023.

“The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, have been continuing to investigate Robbie’s disappearance,” OPP say in a media release. “This has involved multiple searches by the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Aviation Services, Canine Units and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.”

An Oct. 10 search of the Rideau River in Smiths Falls’ Lower Reach Park yielded a car that had been reported stolen in the 1990s.

OPP Media Relations Officer Bill Dickson confirmed to Lanarkist that “the search by divers was in relation to ongoing missing person cases in the area,” including Thompson’s.

“The vehicle had been spotted in the water and we had to check it out,” Dickson said. “It has been determined to have no connection to our investigations.”

Police say Thompson was known to frequent Smiths Falls and Prescott. He is described as:

  • 35 years old
  • 6’2″ (188 cm)
  • Medium build
  • Brown hair and brown eyes
