Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry has issued the following message to the community in advance of Giving Tuesday, which will take place this year on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Tomorrow, December 3, 2024, we mark Giving Tuesday, the world’s largest generosity movement.

Since 2013 in Canada, Giving Tuesday has inspired people to do good through giving back and volunteering their time in their community with the mission to create a world where generosity is a part of everyday life.

I often think about the “secret sauce” in Mississippi Mills: the caring, big-hearted people! The folks who help wherever they can, however they can; the friendly way we encourage and support each other; the quiet way that so many Mississippi Millians help make this community the beautiful place it is!

We are so fortunate to have dedicated volunteer-driven not-for-profit organizations in Mississippi Mills whose contributions are vital to our community. Their commitment and incredible heart are what makes Mississippi Mills such a special place to call home.

These charities and organizations depend on us to give our time, our talent, or our treasure to deliver important programming and services. These are the people you see packing Christmas baskets thanks to community donations, baking pies for community dinners or offering a call to someone feeling isolated. It’s the person who drives neighbours to medical appointments, greets visitors at the museums, or quietly donates to the hospital.

On the eve of this Giving Tuesday, how can you give back?

  • Donate to our local service clubs and charities!
  • Sign up to volunteer!
  • Learn more about the inspiring work volunteers do in our community!
  • Help spread the message!

It’s easy to forget how much you get back when you give. If you see volunteers with our service clubs or non-profit organizations out in the community, thank them for their efforts. That’s the simplest way we can show our support. Need an introduction or a suggestion on how your efforts could be best used in Mississippi Mills? Just let me know. There are so many incredible organizations in our community to invest your time, talent and treasure.
