Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Quinte and Leeds and Grenville areas. A special weather statement has been issued for the Lanark area.

In the areas with the warning, ice build-up can accumulate up to 2 to 4 mm on some surfaces, lasting until the evening.

Freezing rain or a mixture of freezing rain and snow will continue to spread east. Precipitation is expected to taper to scattered flurries, drizzle or freezing drizzle this evening. Areas near Lake Ontario may receive mostly rain instead of freezing rain.

In Lanark County, “precipitation is expected to begin as snow with up to 5 cm of snowfall accumulation possible by this evening. Snow is expected to become mixed with or change to freezing rain this evening before tapering to scattered flurries or freezing drizzle overnight.”

There is a potential for freezing drizzle through this evening and overnight as temperatures are expected to remain near the freezing mark, leading to further ice build-up on surfaces.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Environment Canada urges residents to take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
