Environment Canada issues flash freeze warning for Lanark County

After a downpour in what can only be described as very spring-like weather, returning colder temperatures are likely to lead to slippery conditions, according to Canada’s national weather agency.
Environment Canada issued a flash freeze warning for most parts of eastern Ontario, including the Lanark County area. Issued just before 8:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Mar. 6, 2025, the notice advises that “temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly” this afternoon.
“Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops,” Environment Canada stated.
“Icy and slippery conditions are expected to develop as temperatures rapidly fall below the freezing mark. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous.”
The flash freeze warning is in effect for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Sandbanks Park, South Frontenac, Tamworth, Sydenham, Arden, Plevna, Sharbot Lake, western Lanark County, Gananoque, Mallorytown, Belleville, Quinte West, eastern Northumberland County, Brockville, Prescott, Smiths Falls, Perth, and Eastern Lanark County.
“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” Environment Canada advised.
