On Monday, Apr. 7, 2025, Premier Doug Ford announced his team of parliamentary assistants, who will take on roles supporting cabinet members and, according to the Premier’s office, delivering on the government’s mandate to protect Ontario against U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the resulting economic uncertainty.

According to the Ontario government website, parliamentary assistants support ministers with legislative and committee matters, including special projects and assignments that require dedicated leadership. They also play a key role in building relationships and communicating government initiatives across the province.

Four local MPPs were chosen as parliamentary assistants by Premier Ford:

  • Tyler Allsopp, MPP for Bay of Quinte, is Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.
  • Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings—Lennox and Addington is Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility.
  • Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands is Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and will serve as Government House Leader.
  • John Jordan, MPP for Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston is Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care.

In addition, the Premier’s Office said that MPP Clark will serve as Government House Leader. According to the provincial government, the House Leader is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the party in the Legislature, and for announcing the daily order of House business. All House Leaders meet weekly to plan the business of the Legislature.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Ontario’s new and returning team of parliamentary assistants, who will step into key roles in their ministries,” said Premier Ford in a statement.

“Now more than ever, our team of parliamentary assistants is ready to support our government’s mandate to protect Ontario and build a stronger and more competitive economy that can withstand whatever comes our way.”
