Smiths Falls opens nominations for 2025 Community Awards

The Town of Smiths Falls is calling on residents to help bring attention to the community’s unsung heroes, as nominations open for the 2025 Community Awards. The annual program honours volunteers and citizens whose efforts help improve life in the community in ways big and small.
In a media release issued on April 11, 2025, Mayor Shawn Pankow praised the town’s dedicated volunteers, calling them the heart of Smiths Falls. “We’re incredibly lucky to have so many passionate volunteers contributing quietly but powerfully,” Pankow said. “This is our chance to reflect on the past year, celebrate their efforts, and express our sincere thanks for the difference they make every day.”
Four award categories are open for nominations this years, including the Brooke & Brittany Henderson Award for Youth, which honours young volunteers who demonstrate dedication and community spirit. Other notable nominations include the Charles Gilhuly Award and the Municipal Volunteer Award, and the Good Neighbour Award, presented to up to three residents who have gone above and beyond to help fellow citizens in times of need.
Nominations are open until April 24, 2025, at 4 p.m. Forms are available online at smithsfalls.ca/cvanomination, or in person at Town Hall and the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. The winners will be celebrated at an official awards ceremony set for May 28, 2025 at the Station Theatre, with further details to be announced.
