The Town of Carleton Place is once again inviting residents to take part in its Bare Root Tree Planting Program, offering a chance to help grow the community’s tree canopy—with many unique species to choose from.

This initiative is available exclusively to town taxpayers, offering a subsidized rate of $25 per tree. While supplies last, residents can choose from a selection of large and small native species through the Town’s new online ordering system. The trees, ranging from 5 to 8 feet in height and about 25mm thick, are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to the Town of Carleton Place, trees must be planted within town limits, and each household is limited to two. The Bare Root Planting Program has had a successful year so far, having sold out over half of their available tree species. There is still a limited supply available of Sugar Maple, Red Oak, Hackberry and Cardinal Royal Mountain Ash.

“This program is about more than just trees,” said Town officials in a press release on Tuesday April 22, 2025. “It’s a long-term investment in our community’s environment, health, and beauty.”

To ensure proper planting and care, residents are required to attend a virtual tree planting information session scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. A link to the session will be emailed to participants upon registration. Attendance is mandatory for anyone purchasing a tree, unless they have attended a session in previous years.

The Town also reminds residents to obtain utility locates before digging. These can be acquired free of charge through Ontario One Call, though the process may take up to three weeks.
