As one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities, Carleton Place is taking a critical look at its future transportation needs with the launch of a 2025 Transit Feasibility Study. As the primary users of public transportation, residents are invited to speak their mind and have their say on the future of local transit.

The Transit Feasibility Study, or TFS, aims to explore how public transit might best serve residents, local businesses, and regional visitors. The study will consider the unique needs of the Carleton Place community and propose a transit solution that includes a clear implementation plan, along with estimated timelines and operational costs.

Town officials are hosting an in-person Public Information Centre (PIC) on Wednesday, June 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Carleton Place Arena at 75 Neelin Street. The session will provide local transit users with a first look at the study’s early findings, offering them an opportunity to weigh in on proposed transit solutions.

“We’re at a stage where community input is not just welcome — it’s essential,” said Guy Bourgon, Director of Public Works in a press release on Thursday May 1, 2025. “This is about creating a transit option that makes sense for a small urban town like ours, but also keeps pace with our growth.”

Bourgon emphasized that the study is not just about buses or routes — it’s about understanding what mobility looks like for the community moving into the future. “Carleton Place is changing quickly. We want to ensure we’re making thoughtful, informed decisions that reflect where we are and where we’re headed.”

For those unable to attend the PIC in person, materials from the session will be made available afterward, and feedback will be accepted by the public until Tuesday, June 25, 2025. The final TFS is scheduled to be approved by Council by Fall 2025.

Those interested in learning more and staying involved in the project can contact project manager Guy Bourgon by email at gbourgon@carletonplace.ca. Comments submitted at the PIC will be considered part of the public record, although personal information will be kept confidential.
