A head-on collision near the village of Elgin left two drivers with life-threatening injuries and resulted in criminal charges against a vehicle passenger.

On Friday, May 2, just after noon, officers with the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple reports of a two vehicle collision on Highway 15.

Police determined one vehicle was carrying two adult occupants, while the other had two adults and an infant on board. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to a regional trauma centre in critical condition. Their conditions are described as critical but stable. The three passengers—including the infant—did not sustain serious injuries.

The Leeds County OPP Crime Unit, along with OPP Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigators, are continuing the investigation.

During the response, one passenger of the initial vehicle refused to identify himself to police. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a knife, approximately eight grams of suspected cocaine, and other drug-related items.

As a result, Evan Sarazin, 39, of Ottawa has been charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Assault

Charges have not been proven in court.

Sarazin was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on June 13, 2025.

Police say driving-related charges for one of the involved drivers are pending.
