Free fishing across Ontario this weekend in honour of Mother’s Day

Ontario residents can enjoy free recreational fishing across the province this weekend, May 10 and 11, in celebration of Mother’s Day.
“Fishing is a timeless Ontario tradition that brings people together,” said Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris. “Whether you’re an experienced angler or casting a line for the first time, fishing is a great way to connect with loved ones and enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer.”
While a licence is not required during the designated weekend, all conservation licence limits, fishing regulations, and size restrictions remain in effect. Participants must carry valid government-issued identification showing name and date of birth.
This Mother’s Day weekend marks the second of four free fishing opportunities in 2025. Upcoming free fishing periods include Father’s Day weekend (June 14–15) and Family Fishing Week (June 28–July 6).
Ontario’s recreational fishing sector supports over one million anglers annually and contributes approximately $1.75 billion to the provincial economy, according to a media release from the province.
