The Lanark County Paramedic Service (LCPS) is marking 25 years of service this year, commemorating a quarter-century of lifesaving work and community care across the region.

Established in 2000, the service has grown from a traditional emergency response unit into a key player in community-based healthcare. As an crucial organization operating within the region, LCPS offers outreach, preventative care, and support for patients with complex medical needs.

“This milestone is about more than years — it’s about the people we’ve helped, the communities we’ve supported, and the growth of our profession,” said LCPS Chief Travis Mellema in a commemorative report to Lanark County Council earlier this week.

Highlights from Mellema’s report include LCPS’s support of more than 2,100 clients through its Community Paramedicine program, as well as its participation in Ontario’s Trillium Gift of Life tissue referral initiative. They also participated in an External Violence Against Paramedics study meant to improve first responder safety.

“Our paramedics have risen to every challenge, expanding their skills and scope in ways that continue to improve the health of our region,” said LCPS Chief Travis Mellema.

Although the 25th anniversary is officially in the fall, LCPS wanted it to coincide with the national Paramedic Services Week, which runs May 18–24, 2025.

Brad Harrington, president and CEO of the Mississippi River Health Alliance, called the organization’s transformation and legacy of service over the years “extraordinary.” He shared, “LCPS continues to lead with compassion, innovation, and professionalism. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with them.”

To mark both occasions, LCPS will unveil a new crest and visual identity in a small ceremony on Tuesday, May 21.

“The new crest was designed in collaboration with Perth-based artist Jaana Brett, and reflects LCPS’s continued evolution, connection to community, and commitment to delivering exceptional care,” the LCPS said in a press release issued on Thursday, May 8.
