With Canada Post workers set to begin strike action as of midnight on Friday, May 23, 2025 the municipality of Mississippi Mills is taking steps to ensure residents continue to receive critical information with as little disruption as possible.

The municipality confirmed in a press release on Thursday May 22, 2025 that water bills covering the period from March 1 to April 30, 2025 were mailed on May 21, but delivery may be delayed if the strike proceeds. Despite any mail service interruptions, the payment deadline for this billing cycle remains Monday, June 16, 2025.

To mitigate delays, the municipality is encouraging residents to sign up for paperless billing whenever possible. Upon enrollment of electronic copies of water and tax bills, documents will be delivered directly to email inboxes. Residents can also pick up a paper copy of their water bill in person at the Mississippi Mills Municipal Office, located at 3131 Old Perth Road, during regular business hours.

The municipality is also preparing for potential disruptions in the delivery of final property tax bills, which are typically sent in late June every year. These bills are issued in two installments, with due dates falling on the second last business day of both July and September.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sure residents aren’t caught off guard by a possible labour disruption,” municipal staff said in a release. “Going paperless is the fastest, most reliable way to stay informed.”

Residents can register for paperless billing online at www.mississippimills.ca/paperless.

Payment Options Remain Unaffected
Despite the potential postal service delay, a full range of payment options remains available, including:

  • Online and telephone banking
  • Pre-authorized payment plans
  • Post-dated cheques
  • In-person payments by cash, debit or cheque
  • Use of the after-hours drop box located at the rear of the municipal office

Any billing-related questions can be directed to the tax and water clerk at 613-256-2064 or via email at tax@mississippimills.ca.

Planning Notices Still Accessible Online
For those concerned about planning applications and public meeting notices, the municipality confirmed that all documents and updates will remain accessible online at www.mississippimills.ca/planning-notices.

For planning-related inquiries, residents are encouraged to contact the municipal planning department at mplanner@mississippimills.ca.

Municipal officials say they will continue to monitor the situation closely and update residents as needed.
