Lanark County is rolling out a new program aimed at helping local homeowners save on energy costs while making their homes more environmentally friendly with lower emissions.

The Better Homes Lanark program, partially funded by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, is officially launching on June 2, 2025. The program will offer accessible, low-interest financing to residents looking to complete deep energy retrofits such as insulation upgrades, high-efficiency heating systems, new windows and doors, and solar panel installations.

According to a press release issued by the town of Carleton Place on Thursday, May 23, 2025, homeowners can repay the loans gradually via their property tax bills, making the upgrades more affordable through a simplified application process.

“This is a transformative initiative that empowers homeowners to invest in energy efficiency and sustainability,” said Lanark County Warden Toby Randell. “By making deep energy retrofits more accessible, we are building a greener, more resilient future for Lanark County—one home at a time.”

Among the benefits promoted by Lanark County are lower utility bills, increased home comfort, higher property values, and a reduced environmental footprint. Participants may also qualify for grants of up to $5,000 to offset the cost of upgrades.
