The Town of Smiths Falls will recognize outstanding community members at the annual Community Volunteer Awards Ceremony this Wednesday, May 28, at the Station Theatre.
The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and show support for residents who have made meaningful contributions to the community through volunteer service.
“We are fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes to make Smiths Falls such a wonderful place to live,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “This is an opportunity to look back, shine a light on their good work, and show our gratitude for all they do.”
Awards will be presented in the following categories:
- Charles Gilhuly Award – Recognizes a resident who has quietly and consistently worked to improve the community without seeking recognition.
- Municipal Volunteer Award – Honours a volunteer who has contributed to municipal boards or committees and helped foster local change.
- Good Neighbour Award – Presented to up to three residents who have demonstrated compassion and community spirit in times of need.
The evening will also feature guest speakers Pat Evans and Robert Fisher. Evans, a social worker with more than 35 years of experience, has become a strong advocate for Parkinson’s support and awareness in Eastern Ontario. Fisher is a veteran political journalist with CBC and Global, and a longtime media ethics educator.
More information about the event can be found on the Town of Smiths Falls website.
