Tay Valley man charged after reportedly attempting to flee police while driving lawn tractor impaired

A Tay Valley Township resident is facing impaired driving charges after attempting to flee police on a lawn tractor.
On Saturday, May 24, just after 9 p.m., officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 7, between Perth and Maberly, when they noticed a lawn tractor being driven along an ATV trail.
According to a May 26 media release, when the driver spotted police, he turned around and attempted to leave the area. Officers intercepted and stopped the vehicle a short distance away.
Police administered an alcohol screening test, and the driver was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Jim Dixon, 59, of Tay Valley Township, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Fail to comply with a probation order
Charges have not been proven in court.
Dixon was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 16, 2025, in Perth. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.
The lawn tractor was returned to its rightful location, police say.
