Mississippi Mills Poppy Project returns this year with goal of 10,000 more handmade tributes

The Mississippi Mills Poppy Project is returning for a second year, once again calling organizers are calling on local residents to honour veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members through a collaborative art installation of hand-knitted and crocheted poppies.
Last year, more than 300 participants created over 10,000 poppies, which were tied onto netting and installed at locations throughout the municipality. Volunteers also helped secure the displays and crafted custom cotton bags to store the poppies for future use.
Organizers are hoping to match that effort in 2025, with the goal of collecting another 10,000 poppies to expand the display from Nov. 1 to 15.
Residents interested in contributing can contact Project Coordinator Mary Rozenberg at mary@interlinkx.com to receive knitting or crocheting patterns. Completed poppies can be dropped off by Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, at the following locations:
- Almonte Old Town Hall
- Almonte and Pakenham branches of the Mississippi Mills Public Library
- Mississippi Valley Textile Museum
- Textile Traditions (Mill Street, Almonte)
- Levi Home Hardware
- Orchardview
Those who don’t knit or crochet can still help by tying and tacking poppies onto netting at local libraries before the installations go up this fall.
