Sunshine, smiles, and strides set the good mood for a record-breaking day of running on Saturday, June 7 at the 12th Annual AGH Run for Women’s & Newborn Health. The event, presented by Canadian Tire Carleton Place, raised an astounding $165,000 in support of Almonte General Hospital’s (AGH) obstetrics department.

Organized by the Almonte General Hospital – Fairview Manor Foundation, the event saw more than 400 participants, volunteers, and donors from across the region come together for a good cause. Whether they ran, walked with a stroller, or cheered from the sidelines, community members of all ages came out to support newborn care and maternal health. They also happened to smash previous fundraising records while they were at it!

“We are blown away by the generosity and spirit shown this year,” said Vaia Dimas, Executive Director of the AGH FVM Foundation in a press release. “These funds will help purchase urgently needed equipment like postpartum beds, Panda Warmers, and a HUGS infant security system—all of which contribute directly to the comfort and safety of mothers and babies.”

Participants could choose from either a 3K or 5K route, both of which made their way through scenic Almonte. Participants were thrilled to see the ever-popular ‘Baby Race; return this year, providing a dose of cuteness and laughter as the youngest racers wobbled and crawled to victory.

This year’s event also featured a heartfelt surprise. Julie Munro, long-time Run Committee Chair and dedicated volunteer, was honoured with the Bert McIntyre Award for her extraordinary contributions to the cause over the past decade.

“It’s been an incredible honour to be part of this event for more than a decade,” Munro stated. “Seeing it grow year after year, and now witnessing the largest total ever raised, fills me with gratitude. I’m so proud of our community.”

Organizers were inspired to see local students step up in a big way, with Almonte District High School raising over $18,000, supported by R. Tait McKenzie and Naismith Memorial Public Schools.

The top individual fundraiser was Darrell Graham, who brought in over $34,000 with his efforts.

Since its launch in 2013, the AGH run has raised over $400,000. These funds have been instrumental in helping to purchase vital equipment not covered by government funding. For more information or to donate, visit almontehospitalfoundation.com.
