Carleton Place librarian Heidi Sinnett recognized as a 2025 Asset Builder

A familiar and friendly face at the Carleton Place Public Library has been honoured for her dedication to local youth and her innovative approach to children’s programming.
On Wednesday, June 25, 2025 local librarian Heidi Sinnett was named a 2025 Asset Builder by the Lanark County Child & Youth Services Collaborative. This award is meant to recognize Sinnett’s efforts in making a significant difference in the lives of children and youth in the community
Sinnett, who has worked at the Carleton Place Public Library for nearly two decades, has transformed the library’s traditional Children’s Services into a more dynamic, modern, and inclusive space to adapt to the changing needs of young readers.
“Heidi’s passion for ensuring local children receive quality library service is felt by every child who visits our library,” the Town of Carleton Place said in a release on Thursday Jul. 3. “Her enthusiasm is infectious and has turned many of our young ‘Community Assets’ into lifelong readers.”
Beyond developing a children’s collection that reflects the interests and needs of local families, Sinnett has gone above and beyond through innovative programming like the Mini-Maker Craft Fair—a project that has quickly become a community favourite. Sinnett spends seven months mentoring local children on skills such as pricing, product display, customer interaction, and making change.
“First offered in 2023, the Mini-Maker Craft Sale was an immediate success with 27 children under the age of 16 creating and selling professional-level arts and crafts to the community,” explained the Town. “Heidi’s passion, energy, and creativity have inspired many local youth to develop the business skills they can rely on through the rest of their lives.”
Clearly, Sinnett’s hard work has not gone unnoticed and her new Asset Builder award cements her ongoing commitment to building community connections and fostering creativity among Carleton Place’s youngest citizens.
