The newly rebuilt Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills has officially reopened to traffic.

Lanark County held a ribbon-cutting last month on June 17, 2024 to celebrate the completion of the project, which replaces the original single-lane bridge from 1915 with a more modern two-lane modular bridge. Thanks to additional funds from the Township of Mississippi Mills, the new structure was also widened to improve pedestrian access.

“This modular bridge provides the residents of Mississippi Mills with a safe and economically efficient crossing,” said Lanark County Warden Toby Randell in a release on Friday, July 4, 2025.

The new bridge, which was completed by Looby Construction with design work from Keystone Bridge Management, will improve safety, reduce environmental impacts, and shorten road closures by using a new modular design.

The two-year project faced some delays due to high water levels but was completed just in time for this summer season.
