Update: (Tuesday, July 8, 2025, 1:30pm)
While initial reports stated that the injured individual was a 16-year old girl, the OPP have now confirmed that she was actually a 34-year-old woman. The original information came from witness testimony on scene where the one of witnesses believed the injured woman was younger than she was.
It is still unknown why exactly the tree fell but Provincial Constable Corey Noonan told Lanarkist, “People are probably correct in assuming that yesterday’s storm has weakened the tree, causing it to fall.”
Noonan also confirmed that the severely injured woman is still critical condition but currently in surgery.
Investigators have left the scene and there is a now a tree-cleanup service on site. Lanarkist will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.
