Woman struck by falling tree in Almonte dies from injuries

A woman who was critically injured by a falling tree in Almonte last week has died in hospital, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Lanark County OPP say emergency crews were called to the intersection of Ann and Church streets around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8. A 34-year-old woman from Mississippi Mills Township was walking through the intersection when a large section of tree fell and struck her.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police were notified on Sunday, July 13, that the woman had died from her injuries.

In a statement, Mississippi Mills mayor Christa Lowry spoke about the sad incident on behalf of council and municipal staff.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and loved ones,” Lowry said. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.”

Police did not release any further information.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
