Pedestrians, cyclists, snowmobilers, and ATV riders, should be advised that four sections of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) will be temporarily closed starting Monday, July 28, 2025 as resurfacing work gets underway to improve trail conditions across Lanark County. The trail serves as a key community corridor, connecting Carleton Place to smaller towns like Almonte, and Pakenham.

According to a release from the Town of Carleton Place, the rolling closures will allow Crains Construction to complete grading and apply a new layer of stone dust to the trail surface, improving the safety and accessibility for the many users of the multi-use trail.

The sections scheduled for closure include:

  • Ridge Road to Panmure Road
  • Needham Road to the Pakenham Bridge over the Mississippi River
  • Waba Road to Barr Side Road
  • Pakenham 12th Concession to Shaw Road

According to town officials, the work will begin with the Ridge Road to Panmure Road section of the trail. Trail users are being advised that detour signage will not be available during the closures due to a “lack of feasible detour routes.”
