Drivers and businesses in Carleton Place should prepare for traffic disruptions and restricted access on some roadways over the coming week as underground infrastructure work continues throughout the town.

The Towns says in a Thursday, July 31 media release that Cavanagh Construction will continue work on the Project 26 Sanitary Sewer Upsizing Project next week. Crews will be replacing sanitary sewer infrastructure along the drive aisle that connects McNeely Avenue to the Tim Hortons and Thruway Commercial Plaza. Once that section is complete, construction will continue north toward the Walmart parking lot.

The Town is advising residents that nighttime access to both McDonald’s and Tim Hortons will be temporarily restricted during this work. The closures are needed for public and crew safety.

Elsewhere in town:

  • Dufferin Street: Crews plan to apply top lift asphalt.
  • Down Street: Granular material will be installed, followed by base course asphalt.
  • Grant Street: Crews will remove and replace granular materials.

Strathmar Trenching Ltd. is asking residents of Down, Grant and Charles streets not to park on the street during the day on Friday, Aug. 1, while dust suppression liquid is applied.

Additional work is also taking place at two pumping stations:

  • Princess Street Pumping Station: A new manhole will be installed for by-pass pumping. The intersection at Princess and Sussex will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with flag personnel managing traffic.
  • Industrial Avenue Pumping Station: Crews will be installing the base for the new wet well. Traffic control will be in place as needed.

The Town is reminding drivers to find alternate routes where possible and to follow posted signage and flag crews where work is active. Anyone with questions is asked to contact the Public Works Office at 613-257-2253.
