The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) is taking a major step toward modernizing patient care by joining the Atlas Alliance, a network of 16 Eastern Ontario hospitals and health care partners implementing the Epic digital health record system.

According to a release from the MRHA, Epic is one of the world’s most advanced digital health record systems and Almonte General Hospital (AGH) and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) will be part of the next phase of the regional rollout. The system rollout was led by The Ottawa Hospital, with the aim of providing clinicians with seamless, real-time access to patient information across the region.

“This partnership is in the best long-term interests of our hospitals, patients, staff, physicians, and communities,” said Brad Harrington, MRHA president and CEO. “One system across the region will give our care teams access to real-time patient information, leading to faster decisions, safer care, and a better experience for patients.”

Epic will also introduce MyChart, a secure online portal where patients can view their medical records, test results, and appointments from their own computer or mobile device.

Physicians at the hospitals are expected to benefit as well. “It means fewer gaps, fewer delays, and a smoother, more coordinated care experience for patients,” explained Dr. Allyson Champagne, chief of staff at CPDMH

Planning for the implementation of Epic is already underway, with both hospitals expected to go live with the new system in late 2026.
