Planned daily closures of the historic Five Span Bridge in Pakenham will begin Monday, Aug. 11, 2025 as rehabilitation work enters its next phase, according to Lanark County.
The closures, which will continue until the project wraps up in October 2025, are needed to allow crews from KB Civil Constructors Inc. to carry out substructure repairs, including repointing deteriorated masonry joints on the bridge piers.
According to the township of Mississippi Mills, the daily closure schedule will run as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: Half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset
- Friday: Half an hour before sunrise to noon
The bridge will remain open overnight, on weekends, and during statutory holidays, including Labour Day (Sept. 1) and Thanksgiving (Oct. 13).
Lanark County is encouraging residents to visit www.lanarkcounty.ca/5arches for ongoing updates and, once work begins, a live feed of the bridge site.

A clearly marked detour route will be in place directing drivers to use Galetta Side Road, Upper Dwyer Hill Road and Kinburn Side Road.
