Montague man charged with impaired driving near fire scene

The Lanark County OPP has charged a Montague Township man with impaired driving after officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically near the scene of a fire early Tuesday morning.

Police say the incident happened just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in Montague Township. Officers approached the driver, spoke with him, and arrested him. He was taken to the OPP detachment in Carleton Place for testing.

Robert Wilkinson, 36, is charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 22.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
