Carleton Place launches new waste collection app ahead of provincial recycling changes

Carleton Place residents will soon have a new tool to keep track of garbage and recycling schedules, with the town launching its updated waste collection app next week.
Starting Wednesday, August 13, 2025, residents can download or access Recycle Coach—a free, Canadian-owned platform that provides collection calendars, reminders, disposal guides, and real-time service updates. The app will replace the existing Carleton Place Waste Solutions app, which will be eventually phased out by Dec. 1, 2025.
Town officials said in a press release that the switch is part of preparations for Ontario’s wider transition to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on Jan. 1, 2026. This date marks when a single organization, Circular Materials Ontario, will take over recycling operations province-wide.
“For residents, this means no matter where you go in the Province of Ontario, recycling will be the same. By switching to Recycle Coach, we will be able to integrate our app with CMO’s upcoming app.” the Town explained.
In addition to pick-up reminders and a “What Goes Where?” search tool, the Recycle Coach offers weekly waste quizzes and a geo-enabled reporting tool to report issues like missed collections.
“Additionally, the new app is more cost-effective than our previous app and is Canadian-owned with the company headquarters located in Toronto,” town officials noted. “This provides us with easy access to support and the ability to pay our invoices in Canadian dollars.”
Residents who can’t find their address in the new app can contact the Public Works office at 613-257-2253 or waste@carletonplace.ca.
