“On behalf of the Health Unit, I would like to extend our gratitude to our municipalities and our local veterinary services for assisting and supporting the coordination of these clinics over the years,” said Dr. Linna Li, deputy medical officer of health for SEHU.
SEHU reminds pet owners that keeping dogs and cats up-to-date on rabies vaccinations is key to preventing the spread of the deadly disease. Hunters are also encouraged to vaccinate their dogs ahead of hunting season, as they are at risk of coming into contact with wildlife.
Anyone who is bitten, scratched or in contact with a potentially rabid animal should seek medical attention immediately. The Health Unit follows up on all reported animal bites.
