The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) has elected Michel G. Vermette as the new Chair of its Allied Boards of Directors, which represents Almonte General Hospital, Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital, Fairview Manor, and Lanark County Paramedic Service.

Vermette is no stranger to the inner workings of the Allied Boards of Directors, as he has been serving as a member for the past six years, an experience he described as “rewarding.” With six years of knowledge and expertise under his belt, Vermette feels ready and honoured to step up into his new role of Chair.

“I look forward to working closely with my fellow board members, our senior leadership team, and community partners to continue building on the strong foundation we have in place.” Vermette said in a release from the MRHA. “Together, we will advance initiatives that improve access to care, strengthen our services, and ensure our hospitals, long-term care home, and paramedic service remain vital resources for the people we serve.”

Vermette has nearly four decades of public service experience, including 20 years as a senior executive for the Canadian Federal Public Service. According to the MRHA, his expansive career includes positions with the Canadian Coast Guard, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Canadian Blood Agency, and Canadian Blood Services. From 2015 to 2019, he was CEO of the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada (APEX), a national organization that supports senior public service leaders.

“We are delighted to welcome Michel into the role of Chair,” said Brad Harrington, President and CEO of the MRHA. “His leadership experience, commitment to community, and strategic vision will be invaluable as we continue working together to strengthen local health care.”

Vermette succeeds Lyman Gardiner, who will continue to serve as Past Chair.
