Smiths Falls very own golf star Brooke Henderson is once again the champion of Canada’s national women’s golf tournament, which took place this past weekend at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club.

Henderson secured her second CPKC Women’s Open title on Sunday, August 24, 2025, edging Australia’s Minjee Lee by a single stroke. The victory is her first in more than two and a half years.

Having previously won the CPKC tournament in Saskatchewan in 2018, the 27-year-old closed on Sunday with a 4-under 68 to finish at 15-under 269. Lee, currently ranked fourth in the world, also shot 68 but couldn’t catch Henderson in the end.

Lee, who won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June, settled for second place. Japan’s Mao Saigo finished third at 11-under, while Akie Iwai, who led the first two rounds, ended in fourth at 10-under.

Fifteen-year-old Canadian amateur Aphrodite Deng tied for 20th place at 4-under after opening the week with a 66, showing the country that she is one to watch with a bright future ahead.

Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow publicly praised Henderson’s accomplishment, calling it a historic moment for both Canadian golf and her hometown. “Congratulations Brooke Henderson on an incredible performance, winning the CPKC Women’s Open by a single stroke,” he wrote on Facebook. “With her win at the 2018 CPKC Open, she becomes the first Canadian in over 100 years to win two Canadian Championships…We couldn’t be prouder!”

According to the LPGA, Henderson now has 14 LPGA Tour titles — more than any other Canadian professional golfer. It’s safe the say the town of Smith Falls is sharing a special sense of pride today.
