Search warrant in Carleton Place leads to drug seizure, one arrest

A search warrant in Carleton Place has led to the seizure of illegal drugs and one arrest.

The Ontario Provincial Police East Region Community Street Crime Unit began investigating alleged cocaine trafficking earlier this summer, according to a Thursday, Aug. 28 media release.

Police say say that on Thursday, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Townline Road East. Members of the Community Street Crime Unit, the Lanark County detachment and the OPP Canine Unit seized nearly seven grams of suspected crack cocaine, a number of suspected methamphetamine pills and items typically associated with drug trafficking.

Laura Thompson, 56, of Lanark Highlands, has been charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. Charges have not been proven in court.

She was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 29.
