What’s open and closed in Carleton Place and Almonte on Labour Day – Monday, Sept. 1

Labour Day is widely seen as the unofficial end to summer and the start of a new school year ahead, and this year it lands on Monday, September 1, 2025. To make things easier for you as you plan your long weekend with friends, at the cottage, or back to school shopping, we’ve summarized what’s open and closed in Carleton Place and Almonte, and what local services are affected on the holiday Monday.

Retail and activities

  • Freshco (110 Lansdowne Avenue, CP) will be open closed on Sep. 1.
  • Anderson’s Your Independent Grocer (445 McNeely Avenue, CP) will be closed on Sep. 1.
  • Jonsson’s Your Independent Grocer (401 Ottawa St Rr 4 Almonte) will be closed on Sep. 1.
  • Walmart (​​450 McNeely Ave, CP) will be open closed on Sep. 1.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart (376 Ottawa St.) will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Almonte Rexall (430 Ottawa Street) will be closed.
  • IDA Drug Mart (47 Lansdowne Ave, CP) will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • The Beer Store will be closed.
  • The LCBO in Almonte (124 Queen Street) and the LCBO in Carleton Place (525 McNeely Avenue) will be closed.

Municipal Services in Carleton Place:

The Carleton Place municipal offices in Town Hall (175 Bridge Street) will be closed on Monday, Sep. 1.

City services and facilities long weekend changes in Carleton Place:

  • Waste and Recycling Collection: No service on Monday. Collection will be on the following day of your regular pick-up. Please put out your items one day after your usual collection day for the week of Sep. 1.
  • The Carleton Place Aquatic Centre will be closed on Monday, Sep. 1.
  • The Carleton Place Public Library will be closed on Monday, Sep. 1.

Municipal Services in Almonte:

The Mississippi Mills Municipal Office will be closed Monday. The Municipality’s Building, Planning, Recreation and Culture Departments at Almonte Old Town Hall will also be closed.

City services and facilities long weekend changes in Carlton Place:

  • Waste and Recycling Collection: There is no impact on the garbage and recycling schedule due to the holiday closure.
  • Transit: On Monday, Sep. 1, transit service in Almonte will run on a Sunday schedule. This means that bus and train services will operate at reduced frequencies compared to a regular weekday schedule. 
  • The Mississippi Mills Public Library will be closed on Sep. 1.
