Immersive experience at Perth Museum brings Victorian era to life

The Perth Museum is inviting the community to step back to 1873 with its new immersive program, A Death in the Family: A Victorian Mourning Experience.
The event runs Oct. 4, Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 inside the historic Matheson House.
The story is set in the aftermath of the death of Senator Roderick Matheson. His Gore Street home is draped in mourning, but his will has gone missing. Guests will become part of the mystery, taking on roles as family, friends or staff while participating in 19th-century mourning rituals.
“Last year’s immersive experience was a sell-out, and we’re thrilled to be expanding on that concept with a new storyline,” said Kathryn Jamieson, manager of tourism and culture. “This program blends history with hands-on activities, giving guests the chance to truly feel what life—and loss—looked like in Victorian Perth.”
The program is open to those 19 and older. Group sizes will be limited to maintain an intimate atmosphere.
Tickets and details are available at Perth.ca/Experiences.
