Smiths Falls arena closed after puck hits sprinkler, causes flooding

The Town of Smiths Falls has closed the Memorial Community Centre arena and concourse after an unusual incident during play on Wednesday afternoon.
The town says in a media release that a puck struck the crossbar of the net, then deflected into the sprinkler system in the ceiling. The impact set off the fire suppression system, causing water damage to the ice and parts of the facility.
No one was injured.
“The closure is required while our staff conduct cleanup and emergency repairs,” said Stephanie Clark, the town’s director of community services. “Community Services staff are working as quickly as possible to clean up and repair the damage and will provide an update to the community once a reopening timeline is confirmed.”
The town thanked user groups and residents for their patience during the closure.
