Blasting, paving and pump station work underway across Carleton Place

Multiple construction projects are progressing in Carleton Place this week, from asphalt paving on local streets to blasting at the water and wastewater treatment plants.
The Town of Carleton Place is advising residents that weather, staffing and material supply may affect ongoing construction schedules across the community.
On the Captain A. Roy Brown Boulevard extension and McEachen Drive, Cavanagh Construction is continuing with rock blasting and re-shaping the Beckwith Drain.
On Grant Street, crews are set to pave the top lift of asphalt tomorrow. Work continues on Charles Street, where crews are replacing granular materials in preparation for base course asphalt. On St. Paul Street, existing asphalt is being ground down while grading continues.
At the Findlay Pump Station, workers are resuming installation of the new building foundation, with concrete pouring planned. Renovations continue at the Princess Street Pumping Station, along with backfilling of the wet well.
Most of the work on the Industrial Avenue pumping station has been completed. A final connection to the sanitary sewer is scheduled for the week of Sept. 22, which will require a road closure at Industrial Avenue and Townline Road.
Meanwhile, expansion projects are progressing at both the water treatment and wastewater treatment plants. Excavation has begun at the water treatment plant for new underground piping, with line drilling and blasting planned. The parking lot between Carleton Place High School and the plant has been closed, and access to the Canoe Club and Riverside Park parking may be temporarily affected.
At the wastewater treatment plant, excavation is underway for the new headworks building, with drilling and blasting to follow.
The town is asking residents to avoid active construction zones where possible. Drivers who cannot find alternate routes are asked to slow down and follow posted signs and directions from flag crews.
Questions about the projects can be directed to the Public Works Office at 613-257-2253.
