Perth approves zoning changes to allow business park at former industrial site

The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Perth Town of Perth has approved planning changes that will allow the redevelopment of an industrial property on Rogers Road into a mixed-use business park.
At its Aug. 26, meeting, council passed amendments to the town’s Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-law for 2000 Rogers Road. The decision was formally announced on Wednesday, Sept. 17, noting that Tuesday, Oct. 7 is the last date for appeals.
The proposal, brought forward by Ricardo/EFI Engineering, will see an existing 6,822-square-metre industrial building adapted for a range of new uses. According to a public notice from town officials, plans include professional and administrative offices, personal service businesses, wellness facilities, indoor storage, a café or snack bar, and a flexible market square for seasonal programming.
To permit the project, council voted to change the property’s designation in the Official Plan from Industrial to Business Park. Council says it considered input from both members of the public and other community agencies before making its decision. The Official Plan Amendment now heads to Lanark County, the approval authority, for final consideration.
Individuals, corporations or public bodies may appeal the zoning decision to the Ontario Land Tribunal by Oct. 7.
The by-laws and background materials are available through the town clerk’s office or online at perth.ca. Further questions can be directed to Joanna Bowes, Perth’s director of development services, at jbowes@perth.ca.
