Carleton Place marked National Tree Day with ceremonial planting

To commemorate National Tree Day, which is celebrated every year on the Wednesday of National Forest Week, members of council and municipal staff joined the Carleton Place Urban Forest River Corridor Committee on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 for a ceremonial tree planting event.
Councillor Mark Hinton brought a shovel and warm greetings on behalf of council to the ceremony on Sussex Street, noting the act of planting trees is about more than aesthetics and beautification.
“Today, as we plant these trees, we’re doing more than putting roots in the ground. We’re investing in the future of Carleton Place,” Hinton said in a release.
The councillor highlighted both environmental and community benefits to local tree planting. “Each tree we plant helps clean the air we breathe, shade our streets and homes, and protect the Mississippi River by slowing runoff and reducing erosion,” he said. “Tree-lined streets are more inviting, property values rise, and families feel more connected to their community. Simply put, trees make Carleton Place healthier, more beautiful and more resilient.”
The planting ceremony was also in line with the efforts of the town’s Bare Root Tree Planting Initiative, which encourages residents to take part in environmental efforts across the community.
