Mississippi Mills extends water restrictions amid Level 3 drought

With the Mississippi watershed still under a Level 3 drought, Mississippi Mills has extended water usage restrictions for Almonte residents until conditions improve.

The restrictions, which had been originally scheduled to end today, October 1, 2025, will remain in place until the drought status is lifted. According to the municipality, the level 3 restrictions limit outdoor watering to specific days and hours: odd-numbered addresses may water only on odd calendar days between 5–9 a.m. and 7–11 p.m., while even-numbered addresses may do so on even days during the same time windows.

While municipal wells remain at normal levels for this time of year, the municipality is urging all residents — including those operating n private wells — to reduce their water use by 50 percent amid the drought to support regional conservation efforts.

“We recognize the inconvenience this may cause, however, responsible water stewardship is more critical than ever,” the municipality said in a release.

The release also encouraged simple conservation steps such as using rain barrels, turning off taps while brushing teeth or shaving, taking quick showers instead of baths, and installing low-flow fixtures.

Along with water restrictions, a Level 3 burn ban remains in effect in response to the high fire risk caused by the ongoing dry conditions.
